US: Apply for Mayor’s Gala Lead Grant (up to $25,000)

Whitby is inviting local community and non-profit organizations that help make the Town vibrant and inclusive to apply for Community Development Grants.

The application deadline for the Mayor and Council’s Golf Tournament and Mayor’s Gala Lead Grant (up to $25,000) is March 31, 2024. Additional community grants are available through the Mayor’s Community Development Fund (MCDF) and Performing Arts Community Development Fund (PACDF). Applications for community grants of up to $5,000 can be applied for throughout the year and are awarded monthly.

Last year, the Town provided over $230,000 to 62 community organizations.

The 2023 Lead Grant recipients include:

  • $25,000 to Lakeridge Health Foundation to kickstart the capital campaign to help bring a new hospital and care closer to home for Durham residents as our region grows.
  • $15,000 to Melly’s Place to support its development program for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities who want to work.
  • $15,000 to Victim Services of Durham to help provide crisis response, intervention, and prevention services immediately following a crime or sudden tragedy.
  • $15,000 to Feed the Need Durham to support food banks in Durham Region, making a lasting difference for families in need.

MCDF collects its funding through two events, the Mayor’s Gala and the Mayor & Council’s Golf Tournament. A total of 50 per cent of event proceeds are awarded to lead grants and the balance is awarded in smaller community grants.

Applications are reviewed by a council-appointed citizens committee. High-priority is given to community-focused applicants that have a strong local presence, respond to community needs, and promote inclusion and civic engagement.
