On Friday night, Fire razed six shops on the side wings of the central market of Birnin Kebbi.

The Nigeria News Agency (NAN) reports that the fire has destroyed shops selling agro-chemicals and agricultural materials on the market.

However, a security guard, Malam Aminu Shehu told NAN that it had yet to ascertain the real cause of the fire outbreak.

Shehu confirmed that state fire service men’s intervention helped prevent the fire from spreading to more market blocks.

“I saw smoke and fire coming out of the shops around 10 a.m. yesterday night and used my touch light to check the source of the fire and smoke.

I found out that it was our shops that I was securing and I called for help quickly, but I don’t know the cause.

Saro Agro Science Nig Ltd’s sales representative, Mallam Muhammad Lawal, also told NAN that millions of naira had been lost to the inferno.

Lawal said:

“I can’t say how much property we’ve lost right now; we’re going to check our record and know the products we’ve lost.

We have lost various categories of agrochemical products and agricultural materials, and their prices differ from those of others.

“This is a wonderful experience I’ve had in my life, shops are burning down without knowing the source of the fire; the company has lost millions of naira, we can’t mention the amount of money we’ve lost now because some products are over N4000 per bottle and we’ve lost a lot of product categories,” he said.
