Established in 1948, Ryerson University is a government-owned University public research university in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Ryerson University Admission Procedures

Just like any other higher institution, admission requires certain criteria and procedures and when they are not rightly done, can lead to disqualification of the applicants. Hence, once you’ve chosen your desired program(s), preparing your application requires careful research and planning.

Supplementary Form: All applicants who are not currently attending an Ontario secondary school in a daytime program of study are required to submit a Supplementary Form via the Choose>Ryerson Applicant Portal for each program applied – visit Applications and Related Forms for details.

An application for admission will not be reviewed until the completed Supplementary Form is received by Undergraduate Admissions. Applicants must wait for an email acknowledgement of their application and have set up their Ryerson Online Identity to submit a Supplementary Form.

Alternate Program Choices: Applicants wishing to be considered for more than one program at Ryerson must include all program choices on the applicable application form. By doing this, students are automatically considered equally for each individual program

Note for applicants who have applied to Ryerson in a previous academic year: If the name on the application has changed in any way, proof of this name change (i.e. marriage certificate, notarized statement or another legal document) must be provided.

Tips for Completing Your Application

• Be prepared: Be sure that you have read through the requirements and deadlines to determine whether you fulfilled the entrance requirements.
• Keep track of your Login ID and PIN: At the beginning of the application, you will be required to select a Login ID and PIN. By keeping a record of your ID and PIN as you can log in and out of your application as many times as you need to before you submit it.
• Provide a valid and reliable email address: After you submit your application, you will receive a confirmation email with important information on your Minerva account and how to complete your file. As such, it is very important that you provide a reliable email address.
• Tell us who can obtain application information on your behalf: If you would like a parent, guardian, family member or friend to be able to contact Ryerson University on your behalf and obtain information about your application, you must include their name in the “Disclosure information” section of the application.
• Have a credit card to pay the application fee: At the undergraduate level, a non-refundable application fee is required for up to two program choices. You will be able to preview your application and print a copy before you pay the application fee. You may also print a confirmation of your credit card payment for your records.
• Review your Minerva confirmation: You will receive an email acknowledgement within 48 hours after submitting your application for admission. The login information provided in the email will allow you to access your Minerva account to view your application status and upload supporting documents.  It is your responsibility to verify your status and ensure the completion of your application.

After submitting my application, what next?

• Track your application status on Minerva: Throughout the application process, McGill will communicate with you through Minerva. General Requirements for Studying in Canada

Though admission process and requirements vary from institution to institution in Canada, here we’ll discuss the most general procedures and requirements to get admission in Canadian Universities or Colleges.

In general, please note that in order to study in Canada, the major thing to obtain is a study permit as it is popularly called, which serves as a Canadian student visa for the duration of your stay in the country. Undergraduate Requirements

• A completed application form;
• An official high school transcript (or attested copy) (if applicable);
• Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended (if any);
• A detailed chronological résumé to demonstrate educational achievements, work experience, progression, community involvement, volunteer experience, and other related experience; and
• A Letter of Intent (LOI) that clearly explains why the applicant is applying and outlines the student’s academic intentions.

Applicants who completed high school or any post-secondary study outside Canada must also submit:

• Documentation confirming their high school completion was awarded, if not already indicated on official transcripts; and
• Proof of English language proficiency.

Finally, it is important for you to know that the major languages used in Canada are English and French. But most of the universities offer courses in the English language. So you need to show your efficiency by means of English Language tests.

IELTS is the most widely recognized and accepted English proficiency test in Canada, however, some universities and colleges accept TOEFL. The score that you must obtain in these language tests varies from institution to institution and course of study.

Some universities even seek for another medium of English language test assessment. For MBA, students may be asked for two years of work experience before being admitted to the university. In most of the cases, GMAT is compulsory for MBA students.

• Proof of acceptance and enrolment to an accredited academic institution in Canada;
• Possess a valid passport/travel document, and provide proof of financial support; and

Student Visa Entitlements

How do I Apply and Obtain a Canadian Study Visa

• You may need to give your biometrics (fingerprints and photograph) when applying for a visitor visa, study permit or work permit. You can give your biometrics (fingerprints and photograph) at the Canada Visa Application Centre in your local country
• Read complete information on visa/permit requirements on the IRCC website and download the appropriate application forms and checklist relevant to the purpose of your visit. Please refer to the “Prepare your Application” page to obtain details on visas/permits.
• Fill out the application form and other relevant documents. If you are unable to provide all the supporting documents as mentioned in the official IRCC document checklist, you are required to fill out and sign the waiver form and attach it with your application form. Failure to provide a completed and signed waiver form may result in additional delays or refusal of your application for a visa, permit or travel document.
• Mandatory requirement: Read the privacy policy, fill out the CVAC consent form and attach it with your application form. If a completed and signed CVAC consent form is not included with the application, we will not be able to assist you and will be obligated to return the application to you.
• Pay visa fees as per instructions in the IRCC fee list.
• Visit your local Canada Visa Application Centre (CVAC) and make sure you bring your passport, photographs, completed forms and all supporting documents as per checklist and IRCC fee instrument. Applicable CVAC service charges will be levied.
• Once you are at CVAC, pay the service charges, hand your complete application and obtain a receipt. This receipt contains your unique tracking number which you will need to track the progress of your application online.
