Job Introduction

•Media Trust, publishers of the Daily Trust titles and one of the leading players in the media industry in Nigeria, seeks a very talented and innovative person to be its Photo Editor.
•The candidate for the position must be editorially sound with vast understanding of the Nigerian media market.

Responsibilities

•As the photo editor, the photo journalists in the company report to him, while he reports to the Editor of the paper.
•He/ she is expected to coordinate the team to bring out the best in them.
•The candidate must be very resourceful and provide the needed support to the editor, his deputies and line editors.
•He will be responsible for selection and captioning of all photographs in the paper.
•He is expected to develop creative ideas with editors, coordinate and lead all photography assignments for all the titles.
•He is expected to ensure that rare and captivating photographs are used in the paper.

The Ideal Candidate

•The person must be fluent in written and spoken English.
•The candidate must have a deep understanding of the vision and mission of the newspaper and be ready to work in that light.
•He/ she must be experienced on the job, have a thorough understanding of key players in the industry and be a team player.
•He/she should have a clear understanding of the paper’s market/ readers.
•The candidate should be able to communicate with senior management and external partners.

Competencies and Key Responsibilities

•Candidate should be able to select photographs that complement text.
•Should be able to position photographs in the newspaper appropriately in line with company policies.
•Ensure proper captioning of all photographs.
•Must work in consonance with the editor and deputies.
•Coordinate his team to provide results.
•Ensure an integration of editorial and creative ideas.
•Lead the photo desk on all special projects executed by the paper.
•Understand and incorporate industry trends in photographic editing.

Requisite Qualifications

•HND or Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, Photography or related field.
•5-7 experience in similar position with a newspaper or magazine.
•Ability to collaborate on projects and meet deadlines.
•In-depth knowledge of copyright rules.
•Proficiency in keeping up with photography trends and related technologies.
•Excellent communication skills.
