Following the Workshop for the Chairman and Members of the National Population Commission NPC on Census operations and processes in preparation for the 2023 Population and Housing Census held at the Golden Tulip Hotel, Port-Harcourt, Rivers State on the 27th March 2023, new training dates for NPC enumerators and supervisors have been disclosed.

The date disclosed by the National Population Commission (NPC) as the new date for the training of ad-hoc staff for the 2023 Population and Housing Census has now been changed from 31st March to 11th – 30th of April 2023.

According to the NPC, LGA Level Training on Building Numbering and Household Listing will begin on 11th April 2023 and end on 17th April 2023. This is the First Phase of Enumerators and Supervisors’ Adhoc Staff Training.


LGA Level Training on Persons Enumeration will begin on 25th April 2023 and ends on 29th April 2023. This is the Second Phase of the Enumerators and Supervisors Adhoc Staff Training.

Census Night is on 2nd May 2023 while the Main Cenus (Person’s Enumeration) is from 3rd May to 7th May 2023.

The announcement was made during a workshop on census processes and operations held by the NPC in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The workshop was attended by the Chairman and Federal Commissioners of the NPC, who discussed critical steps towards the success of the census.

The workshop on census processes and operations is critical to the success of the 2023 Population and Housing Census. It is expected to provide a comprehensive update on the status of the census operations to the Chairman and the Federal Commissioners of NPC to further facilitate effective oversight and coordination of the entire census process at all levels.

The committee also concluded on the census date, fixing it for the first week of May. The member stressed the importance of picking a proper date for the census, considering the religious activities that usually take place in April.
