Just IN: Glo Users will no Longer be able to Make calls to MTN Users
In a recent development, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has officially announced the approval for the partial disconnection of Globacom Limited (Globacom) from MTN Nigeria Communications Plc. (MTN). This decision comes in response to the non-settlement of interconnect charges by Globacom.
The NCC revealed that MTN had applied for the partial disconnection, prompting the Commission to notify Globacom and provide an opportunity for them to present their case. After careful examination of the application and considering the circumstances surrounding the unpaid charges, the NCC concluded that Globacom did not provide sufficient or justifiable reasons for the non-payment of the interconnect charges.
In light of these findings, the NCC issued a public notice, urging subscribers and the general public to take note of the following key points:
Approval of Partial Disconnection:
The NCC has approved the partial disconnection of Globacom from MTN, in accordance with Section 100 of the Nigerian Communications Act, 2003, and Paragraph 9 of the Guidelines on Procedure for Granting Approval to Disconnect Telecommunications Operators, 2012.
Changes for Globacom Subscribers:
After a period of 10 days from the date of the notice, subscribers of Globacom will no longer be able to make calls to MTN. However, they will still be able to receive calls.
Nature of Partial Disconnection:
It’s important to note that the partial disconnection only affects outgoing calls from Globacom to MTN. In-bound calls to the Globacom network will not be affected.
The NCC emphasizes that this partial disconnection will remain in effect until the Commission determines otherwise. The decision is a measure taken due to the non-payment of interconnect charges, and the Commission encourages all stakeholders to stay informed about these changes.
Subscribers are advised to monitor further announcements from the NCC regarding the resolution of this matter and any potential changes to the disconnection status.
