Who is eligible for the FG N25,000 Monthly Cash Transfer and how to get it?
The Nigerian government has outlined conditions that beneficiaries of the direct cash transfer program, planned to support fifteen million households, must fulfil as the cost of living rises.
As citizens lament the high cost of food prices, President Bola Tinubu has stated that he has made plans to restart the direct cash transfer to the poorest and most vulnerable Nigerians.
Before pausing the social investment program some months ago, three million Nigerians were benefiting from the program. Due to the rising cost of living, the government announced that they would increase the number of households benefiting from the scheme to 15 million.
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Wale Edun, said in a recent interview on Channels TV that the beneficiaries must have a National Identity Number (NIN), Biometric Verification Number (BVN), and access to a mobile phone. He said this is to ensure that the money reaches the right people and to prevent any fraudulent activities.
Mr. Edun said these households would receive 75,000 naira each for three months.
“That’s 25,000 naira a month to 15 million households, and each household will have about five people. So, that effectively provides funding for 75 million people.”
In addition to this, the Minister of Finance also revealed that the government plans to give artisans, youths, traders, women, and nano-business owners a non-repayable grant of 50,000 naira.
However, for this case, digital verification will be carried out, covering at least 1000 people in all the 774 local government areas of the country, totalling another 50 billion nairas to help people during this period.
Mr Edun said this is the most direct way to help people at this time.
